4G: Like 3G, But More Versatile, Faster, and Altogether Better

Filed under: News — admin @ 11:28 pm

When it comes to wireless internet networks and user experiences, the general consensus has been that 3G networks were and continue to be a major success.  They ushered in a new era of mobile capabilities that proved to have major business applications and that furthermore were hugely popular among individual end-users for simple connectivity purposes.  And thanks to the many different devices which have offered users access to 3G networks, the availability has been incredibly broad.  Now, however, with the launch of 4G networks in many different local markets across the US (and in other parts of the world) all of these positive, exciting trends are only going to be deepened, broadened, and improved.

That’s essentially because fourth generation wireless will be like 3G, but more versatile in its applications, faster in its data transfer speed, and basically better in every possible way you can imagine.  The first US city to be graced with a fourth generation network was Baltimore, Maryland, though by now (late 2009) there are dozens of cities across the country being blanketed—and that word needs to be taken in a quite literal sense—in 4G signals.  In the coming year, the rollouts are shaping up to be quite aggressive and will bring this incredibly service to many millions more.  But what exactly stands to be gained by this new wave of wireless networks, and where are the most important advances?

As has been stated over and over again by the leaders in fourth generation deployments, the greatest virtue here is applications and more applications.  Among the most exciting applications to be brought in by this new generation of mobile standards, a representative list would surely have to include wireless VoIP services, M2M (mobile to mobile) applications such as smart grids, and a variety of location-aware apps that will take social networking online to a whole new level.  There are many other applications that will be rocking the 4G world that will surely arise as these networks gain in subscribers and popularity, but even with this limited list the cause for optimism and expectation is quite high.

Another tremendous virtue that fourth generation networks will offer users, whether represented by businesses or individuals, will be the ability to connect seamlessly despite whatever type of wireless technology you are connecting through.  That is to say, if you are getting your signal from a WiFi tower one minute and then you move into another zone of your city where the signal is being disseminated by a WiMax tower, you won’t even realize that there was a change in that regard—it will be, quite literally, a seamless hand off.  This is an enormous improvement over previous generations where protocol prevented this from happening, and the service had to be interrupted (even shortly, it still represents an inconvenience) for a new session to be initiated.  Essentially, quality of service will remain intact no matter what part of the coverage area you are in and no matter what kind of device you happen to be using.

With more wimax internet deployments boosting the 4 G presence every day, you can’t afford to wait a day longer to experience this amazing new technology—sign up today and find out why!
