4Ging the Way: Putting Yourself on the Internet

On December 9, 2009, in News, by admin

We all know them – the friends and acquaintances that spend hours updating their blogs, chatting on Facebook, tweeting the goings-on of their days and making videos for YouTube.  They know the ins and outs of all that have to do with the online world, having a hold on wireless internet, 4G and everything else that goes along with it.  They’ve even mastered smart phones, tweeting from the strangest of places and checking work e-mails whenever they please.

And while you may feign a sort of dismissal of this online “nonsense,” chances are that you are in reality quite curious.  The world of online social networking, communication and information sharing is an extremely rich one.  You don’t need to get into anything with which you’re too uncomfortable (because, let’s face it, Twitter isn’t for everyone), but it is a good idea to get out there.

Not sure how to get started?  Take a few cues here.

1.  Find out what’s out there.

No matter how many newspapers you read or television shows you watch, if you’re not that used to the internet, you probably don’t know what’s out there.  Take some time out to browse more personal sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to see what they’re all about.  Do the same with YouTube.  Check out links to the pages of friends and families, and get a general sense of what’s going on.

2.  Decide what’s best for you.

Not sure the games or pictures on Facebook are for you?  Skip it.  Think the videos on YouTube are intriguing and interested in delving into the world of film?  Open up an account.  Figure out what interests you – there is a lot out there.  If you’re looking to put yourself on the internet professionally, open up a LinkedIn page.  If you’re a budding musician, check out My Space.

3.  Check your privacy.

Privacy can be a huge issue when it comes to the internet – and rightly so.  Research privacy policies before signing up for anything and make sure that you know who can access your information.  Your best bet is, in fact, to keep as much personal information off of the internet as possible.

4.  Go mobile.

Once you’ve got things set up from your home computer, try out what it feels like to be online while in motion.  Pick up a smart phone and update your Twitter account using a mobile air card and wireless internet.  And find out how 4G and WiMax allow live-streaming video from your YouTube or MySpace to be better and faster than ever.  The sky is really the limit.

So what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and get yourself out there in the online world – you know you’re curious to try it!

Clear 4G helps you to get yourself out there online. With 4g internet you’ll be out of the dark.
